Getting Started in 2021/2022

Students are at the heart of all we do in TU Dublin, and we want to help you to succeed. Some of you might find starting University daunting at first, but we are here to support and help you to adjust. Your academic progress is important, but so is your health, happiness and well-being, so don’t be afraid to ask us for help. 

When you start, you might come across terms being used that you are not familiar with, so here’s a quick video to explain some of the most commonly used terms:

The academic semester for first-year students will begin from Monday, 27 September 2021. In addition, some programme-specific orientation activities will take place for students based on our Blanchardstown and Tallaght campuses from Monday, 20 September, 2021.

Students’ Union Festival Week

This is your chance to meet new people and make new friends! Over the next week, your TU Dublin Students’ Union will organise a variety of events. Keep an eye out for announcements on our social media channels! 

  

 

If you’ve applied through the Central Applications Office (CAO), you’ll need to log in to your application to accept an offer once one has been made. 

If you're a non-EU part-time or postgraduate student that has applied through Quercus, you’ll need to log in to your application to accept an offer once one has been made.

Once each CAO round of offers has ended, students will receive an invitation to register via email with details on how to register for their programme. This email will be sent to the email address that you supplied to the CAO. Once you receive this email, you should register on our website using the username and password which will be included in your invitation to register email.

We will also send you two digital magazines which will provide lots of valuable information such as details of your orientation session to help get you off to the best start. 

Paying your fees 

Your invitation to register email will also provide you with the information that you need to pay your fees.  You can pay your fees online with a debit/credit card.

Minimum payment required to register on your programme

To register on your programme and gain access to University services, you will need to pay a minimum of 25% of your annual fee before commencing classes. For most undergraduate first-year students, this means a payment of €750, which is a quarter of the annual fee for students who have not attended college previously. If you have applied for a SUSI grant, please follow the online registration instructions for registering using your SUSI application number.

A further 25% of your programme fee must be paid by Sunday, 31 October 2021.   The remaining 50% of the fee can be paid in multiple payments online/or by bank transfer and must be paid in full by Monday, 31 January 2022.

Your University email account   

Information on your University email account will be included in your invitation to register email. We will always use this email address for any messages we send during the academic year, so it is essential to check your University email account daily. 

Students based on our Grangegorman, Aungier Street, and Bolton Street Campuses 

It is important you obtain a Student ID Card as you will need it to access facilities such as the Library, Exam venues and some classrooms. You must be registered before a Student ID Card can be issued. Your TU Dublin Student ID Card is valid until the end of your programme. The card includes details of your student number and programme.

How to obtain your Student ID Card if you are a Full-time Student

A schedule for issuing of ID Cards for new 1st Year Undergraduate CAO students is organised in September prior to the start of the academic year and published on the website.  Outside of this schedule, if you are a full-time student an image can be uploaded at the link below:

The image must comply with the guidelines provided in the image upload link.  It should be noted that the maximum size of image is 150Kb so it may be necessary to use an on-line compression tool to reduce the size of the image prior to uploading.

Students based on our Blanchardstown Campus

You will be asked to upload a suitable image for your student card as part of online registration.  You will receive an email with instructions on how to do this after you accept your CAO Offer.  A suitable clear image/headshot and size as per instructions in your registration email must be uploaded.  Student cards will be printed and issued to students by post - so it's important to ensure your postal address is correct when completing online registration to avoid any delay in receiving your student card.

Grants

Did you know that you can apply for a grant even before you have been offered a college place?

You can check your eligibility on the SUSI website and if you’re eligible, we recommend that you apply via the SUSI website as soon as possible. If you have already applied for a SUSI grant, you can registration without paying any fees.

Financial Aid

We recognise that some students may face financial difficulties during their time at college and a number of assistance schemes are in place to support such students.

The scheme is designed to help those in severe financial difficulties due to unforeseen circumstances such as the current Covid crisis or students who are disadvantaged and require additional financial support to continue their third-level studies. This funding is available to full-time registered TU Dublin students and certain part-time registered students* and these funds cannot be used for the purposes of registration or tuition fees. TU Dublin is proud to be part of the National Active Consent Programme to promote a positive and confident approach to sexual health and to equip young people with the tools to recognise and communicate about sexual consent.

As a first-year student you have the opportunity to participate in an online Active Consent Workshop as part of your extended orientation experience.  This programme will give you the opportunity to explore and discuss the issue of sexual consent in an open, safe and non-judgmental way. 

Students who participated in the workshop in previous years have given very positive feedback – they found it both engaging and insightful and reported that it made them feel more comfortable around the area of consent.
